International Conference "Physics of Magnetic Stars"

Special Astrophysical Observatory, Russia
1 – 5 October, 2018

A conference poster

Magnetic fields play an important role in a physical state of all cosmic objects, particularly of stars, influencing their physical properties and playing an important role in their evolution. New high quality observational data, constantly improving computational simulations and models of stellar interiors and atmospheres greatly contribute to this field of research.

To discuss current state of research and its further perspectives the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences invites astrophysicists from a field of stellar magnetism to take the part in a traditional International conference on October 1 - 5, 2018.

The conference will take place in the SAO, Nizhnii Arkhyz, Karachai-Cherkess Republic of Russia, in the North Caucasus mountains where the Russian 6-m telescope is based.

The programme of the conference covers a wide range of problems and includes the following topics:

  • Main Sequence chemically peculiar stars
  • Magnetic white dwarfs, polars, and other degenerate objects with magnetic fields
  • Binary and multiple magnetic stars, exoplanets
  • Variable stars, space- and ground-based photomertic data and its analysis
  • Stellar magnetic fields from the theoretical point of view, their origin and evolution
  • New equipment and techniques in a field of stellar magnetism

Suggested topics are traditional for the conference, however they are not meant to limit themes to be discussed, talks on other areas of stellar astrophysics are welcome as well.

The workflow of the conference will be organized according to the registered number of participants and talks. The Proceedings of the conference will be published as a separate volume and we plan to do that in ASP Conference Series.

Conference fee

The conference fee is 8000 rubles (about 110 EUR). The conference fee covers posting invitations for Russian visa, escorting participants from/to the airport or the railway station in Mineralnye Vody to the venue, coffee breaks, and conference proceedings. For Russian and CIS participants, and those who do not need the Russian visa the conference fee is 6000 rubles (5000 rubles in a case of an early-bird registration till August 1, 2018). For undergraduate and graduate students, there is a 50% discount.

Update. Abstract submission for the registered participants ends on September 1, 2018. Closed.
